Weather

When I woke up this morning and looked out the window there was a heavy mist and dew on the grass and this instantly brought to mind the Jackie Leven song "Some ancient misty morning". Then almost immediately I started thinking about all the other songs i've heard over the years to do with weather.

Now weather is a national obsession for us Brits, we great friends with, "hey up, bloody cold day today", or "it's chuffing warm today". Brits can talk for hours about the weather and I suspect most people around the world do too. This may be the reason why there have been so many songs written about it.

So I thought it might be an idea to post a few here as today's blog. As I write the mist is slowly clearing and it promises to be a lovely day.

So first up Jackie Leven and the one that started of this musing "Some ancient misty morning" Oh that we could still be hearing Jackie's voice singing new songs to us today.

Gordon Lightfoot "Early morning rain" a great song that still sounds as fresh as the first time I heard it while still at school. A song not so much about the weather, but of being away from a loved one.

Lou Christie sang about "Lightning strikes" way back in 1965, again not strictly about the weather but comparing falling in love with being struck by lightning.

More recently Nottingham's Jake Bugg gave us "Lightning bolt" Starting with the opening line, "Morning, it;s another grey morning" could easily describe most Nottingham mornings. It is so hard to believe that this song is already over 5 years old.

Most songs with weather in the title are not actually about weather, and most are about relationships. Elkie Brooks sings about "Sunshine after the rain" and is really asking for better times after a break up.

Whilst looking for the Elkie Brooks track I found this version that too me right back to 1994 and selling large amounts of it in our Shop. We sold lots of Euro-dance tracks many of them cover versions of hit songs. A huge amount of them never made the charts. This one charted twice in '94 reaching 26, then in 1995 it was re-issued just crediting Berri and it got as high as number 4. So why not play it, Berri "Sunshine after the rain" with its Georgio Moroeder, Donna Summer intro.

Right the sun is out now and shopping beckons, more another day,
